Church Services Offered & Ministries
Wednesday – Lunch in the Park
We like to meet individuals where they live. Using our Director’s homemade recipes, every Wednesday we offer meals at the Salvation Army on McCallie and the Chattanooga Community Kitchen from 12:30 until 1:30 p.m., come rain, sleet, snow or hail just like the United States Postal Service. We serve on average 10,400 bowls of soup through our Lunch in the Park program every year. We do this to promote a sense of community and to build relationships by offering the love of Christ.
This program also offers those who have come through our program the opportunity to give back. Most of our volunteers who serve in our Lunch in the Park program were at one time on the other side of the table themselves and they appreciate what a warm, homecooked meal means while you’re down on your luck.
For more information on you and your small group or organization can be a part of our Lunch in the Park program, contact Barry Kidwell.
Thursday – Lunch in the Projects
We began this program in March of 2020 right at the start of the Coronavirus pandemic. We saw there was a need for meals due to a lot of layoffs, so we stepped in and decided to deliver weekly sack lunches. Every Thursday we go out to College Hill Courts and deliver sack lunches that contain a bologna and cheese sandwich, a clementine, a bag of chips, and a snack cake for dessert. We have gone from feeding 100 people at the start of the pandemic to now feeding 200 kids and parents in need of a meal.
Since we have started this program, we have met new friends and have become everyone’s favorite part of their Thursday. We are often told that people wait for us and look forward to us every week. We have also been told by many families that they depend on our sack lunches for the day. If you are interested in volunteering and sharing this experience with us, please reach out to Madeline and ask how you can help!
